Kabul, Oct 16 (IBNS): At least seven people, including the National Directorate of Security (NDS) director of Samangan province, have been killed in a clash with the Taliban militants in Afghanistan.

General Khawani Tahari, the NDS director, along with six other security force members were gunned down on Monday night in Darah Sof Payan district of the province.

The incident was confirmed by provincial police spokesman Mohammad Monir Rahimi, who said that the clashes took place in Zerki village of the district.

He said that at least 14 Taliban militants were killed and 16 others were wounded during the clash.

Local Tolo News quoted witnesses as saying that a few security members were taken hostage by the Taliban militants.

However, Rahimi did not confirm the news.
