Islamabad: Afghanistan political leaders, who are currently visiting Pakistan, have opposed what they called “the single-party government” in Afghanistan shortly after the Taliban declared the formation of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, media reports said.

The Afghan delegation comprising erstwhile Northern Alliance leaders arrived in Pakistan on Sunday, the day Kabul was overrun by the Taliban.

The delegation has since met Prime Minister Imran Khan, Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa, and Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi, reports Samaa TV

Addressing the press conference, the delegate said they were invited to Pakistan by the federal cabinet of the country, which had sent the invitation a month ago.

Speaker Afghan Parliament Mir Rehman Rehmani was quoted as saying by Saama TV that Afghanistan should be governed by a constitution that is acceptable to everyone.

A single-party authoritarian government would not be accepted, he told reporters.

On August 15, the Taliban entered Kabul.

President Ashraf Ghani resigned and fled the country to prevent what he described as bloodshed that would occur if militants stormed the city.

Many countries have since started evacuating their citizens and diplomatic personnel from Afghanistan.

Anti-Taliban demonstrations are taking place in different parts of the globe.
