Kabul, Mar 23 (IBNS): A blast targeted a Farmer’s Day ceremony at a local stadium in southern city of Lashkargah in Helmand area of Afghanistan and left at least three people killed on Saturday, media reports said.

Afghanistan's Ministry of Interior spokesman Nusrat Rahimi told Tolo News that the casualties might increase.

He told the news portal that the blast was the result of two mines placed at the stadium.

Sources told Tolo News that the explosion happened in an area close to security and local officials, including the provincial governor.

A local official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told the news portal that head of Directorate of Economy in Helmand, Mohammad Khan Nusrat, lost his life in the explosion.

Taliban has claimed responsibility for the incident.
