Colombo Feb 21 (IBNS): Twelve military personnel and seven civilians have been injured in an explosion inside a private bus in Diyatalawa, in the hill country of Sri Lanka this morning.

Among the injured military personnel, there are seven soldiers of the Sri Lanka Army and the rest are airmen in the bus explosion. The bus was heading towards Diyatalawa from Jaffna, in north of the country.

Army Media Spokesperson Brigadier Sumith Atapattu told the media that the explosion cannot be ruled out as an act of terrorism yet.

“A stock of highly explosive substance inside the bus may have caused the explosion,” he said adding that the government analyst will rule out the cause soon.

According to the Police Media Spokesperson Ruwan Gunasekara, the fire in the bus broke out at around 5.30 in the morning, on Wednesday.

Police are also conducting investigations into the explosion, where the private bus is heavily damaged and two soldiers have been critically injured.
