12 killed, 30 injured in Afghanistan mosque blast

Kabul/UNI/Sputnik: Twelve people were killed and 30 others were injured in an explosion in a mosque in Afghanistan's northern province of Kunduz, a source told Sputnik.

The explosion occurred in one of the central mosques in the Imam Sahib District, the source added.

According to Afghan broadcaster Tolo News, citing the Kunduz police, the incident took place at around 1:30 pm (local time) during Friday prayers.

Law enforcement is reportedly working at the scene. All those injured were taken to a local hospital, the broadcaster said.

Since taking power in the country in August 2021, the Taliban movement has been battling a local chapter of the Islamic State terror group (IS, banned in Russia), which is believed to be behind the majority of terrorist attacks and bomb explosions in Afghanistan.

According to the Taliban, the IS presence in the country is small and the movement has been working to eradicate the group.
