Sikkim govt proposes six heliports to boost tourism

Gangtok:The Sikkim government has proposed setting up of six heliports with added facilities to boost the state’s tourism.

Disclosing this, Additional Chief Secretary Tourism, ML Shrivastava said a 12-seater helicopter on lease is also in the offing.

“We have been focusing lately on communication so that our guests (tourists) have a memorable stay. We have proposed 6 Heliports with added facilities. And a 12-seater helicopter on lease is in the offing,” he said.

“The Centre is very positive about linking Pakyong airport to Kathmandu and Dhaka,” he said.

He announced that 17 Tourist Information Centres (TICs) were being turned into facilitation centres. 1000 Mega Homestays project has also been launched at a cost of Rs 521 crores.

“These will also help to boost rural economy,” he added.
