Air India restores codeshare agreement with Air Canada

New Delhi: Air India reinstated its codeshare agreement with Air Canada, expanding travel options between India and Canada beginning December 2, the airline announced Wednesday.

The carriers, both members of Star Alliance, will offer additional connections through Vancouver and London Heathrow.

Under the agreement, Air India will place its code on Air Canada-operated flights from Vancouver to Calgary, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Montréal and Halifax, and from London Heathrow to Vancouver and Calgary.

Air Canada customers will gain access to domestic connections in India, including Amritsar, Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Hyderabad and Kochi via Delhi, and to Delhi and Mumbai via London Heathrow.

"More than two million people travel between India and Canada every year and the reinstatement of our partnership with Air Canada eases journeys for thousands of them every day moving forward," said Campbell Wilson, Air India’s CEO and managing director.

Passengers travelling on itineraries that combine both airlines will be able to book a single ticket and receive a unified baggage allowance.

Members of both carriers’ frequent flyer programmes will continue to earn and redeem points, and Air India’s elite status holders will retain Star Alliance Gold benefits on Air Canada flights, including priority services, additional baggage and lounge access.

The codeshare flights are subject to regulatory approval and will be released for booking progressively through both airlines and travel agencies.
