Air Canada suspends Toronto-Montreal Flights to JFK for Nearly 5 months over jet fuel costs

Air Canada announced Friday it will suspend flights from Toronto and Montreal to New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) from June 1 to October 25, 2026, as jet fuel prices have doubled since the Iran conflict, rendering the routes unprofitable.

"Jet fuel prices have doubled since the start of the Iran conflict, and some lower-profitability routes and flights are no longer economic, and we are making schedule adjustments accordingly," an Air Canada spokesman told AP News.

The cuts affect three daily Toronto-JFK and one Montreal-JFK flights, impacting peak summer travel, per Global News.

Air Canada will maintain service to LaGuardia (LGA) and Newark (EWR), offering 34 daily New York connections with automatic rebookings for affected passengers, CBC News reported [CBC News].

Jet fuel averaged $4.32 per gallon Thursday, up from $2.50 pre-war, according to Argus Media data cited by AP News.

This follows Air Canada's earlier Cuba route suspensions and follows industry-wide fare hikes and capacity cuts amid Middle East supply disruptions.
