Yashasvi Jaiswal's unbeaten 179 leads India's first-day campaign in Vizag

Despite losing set partners from the other side at regular intervals, 22-year-old Jaiswal continued with his run flow to finish at 179 off 257 balls pulling India to 336/6 at stumps.

Jaiswal, who completed his 100 with a shot worth the maximum number of runs, fuelled his giant innings with 17 fours and 5 sixes.

"I would love to double it up and make sure I keep going and play for my team till the end," said Jaiswal, who has impressed crickets greats including Sachin Tendulkar, at the post-match interaction after toiling for over seven hours.

However, India without Jaiswal's bravery would have found themselves on a spot of bother as all the other batters including debutant Rajat Patidar were dismissed despite getting starts.

Shubman Gill (34), Patidar (32), Axar Patel (27), Shreyas Iyer (27) were some of the batters, whose dismissals brought England back to the game at different times leading the visitors to be not entirely disheartened on Friday.

Rehan Ahmed (2/61) and Shoaib Bashir (2/100) scalped four of six Indian wickets while the rest two were shared by premier fast bowler James Anderson and Tom Hartley.
