'They made Shikhar Dhawan captain': Dilip Vengsarkar slams Team India selectors post WTC defeat

India's devastating loss against Australia in the World Test Championship final 2023 has left the cricket-loving nation devoid of any ICC trophy in a decade.

India's last ICC win was Champions Trophy 2013 under the leadership of Mahendra Singh Dhoni.

Now, cricket great and former selection committee chairman Dilip Vengsarkar has joined the list of experts who have slammed the Indian team over yet another ICC defeat.

Vengsarkar told Hindustan Times, "The unfortunate part is that the selectors I have seen over the last six-seven years neither have the vision, deep knowledge about the game or cricketing sense.

"They made Shikhar Dhawan India captain (when tours overlapped and main players were unavailable); it is where you can groom the future captain."

Vengsarkar has accused the Indian cricket board (BCCI) of not grooming any future captain.

"You haven't groomed anybody. You just play as it comes. You talk about the richest cricket board in the world, where is the bench strength? Just having IPL, earning crores of rupees in media rights, should not be the only achievement," he added.

India will next be aiming to win the ODI World Cup, which is scheduled to be held later this year.
