T20 World Cup: Sri Lanka defeat Afghanistan by 6 wickets, keep semi final hope alive

Sri Lanka registered a six-wicket win over Afghanistan in a Group 1 match of the T20 World Cup on Tuesday, keeping their hope to qualify for the semi final stage alive.

Sri Lanka (148/4) chased down the target of 145 set by Afghanistan (144/8) in 18.3 overs.

Dhananjaya de Silva played the anchor's role in the run chase remaining undefeated at 66 off 42 balls.

Silva slammed six fours and two sixes in the innings which has almost single-handedly eliminated Afghanistan from the tournament.

Earlier, Sri Lankan bowlers restricted Afghanistan to 144/8 in 20 overs.

Though Afghanistan were looking for something over 150-mark, regular fall of wickets in the death overs kept them shy of around 15 more runs at the end.

Rahmanullah Gurbaz was the top scorer for Afghanistan with his 24-ball 28.

Wanindu Hasaranga cliched three wickets for 13 runs in four overs for Sri Lanka.

Hasanga's two wickets including the one of star player Rashid Khan in the death overs helped Sri Lanka to mute Afghanistan's lower order batting.
