Adelaide, Jan 26 (IBNS) A heroic unbeaten 55-ball 90 runs knock by India's Test skipper Virat Kohli helped India post a competitive 188 runs for the loss of three wickets in the first T20 match against Australia here on Tuesday.

Rohit Sharma made a solid start for India with his 20-ball 31 runs innings where he hammered four boundaries and a six.

It was Shane Watson, who put some pressure on the Indian batting line-up, as he picked up Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan (5) in the same over.

Kohli and Suresh Raina (41) added 134 runs in the third wicket partnership where it was the Test skipper who scored maximum of the runs.

Raina, arrived in Australia for the T20 series, took sometime to adjust to the conditions and hit three boundaries and a six in his 34-ball knock.

James Faulkner picked up the wicket of Raina to break the partnership at the end.

Indian skipper MS Dhoni (11) played a short but crucial innings where he smashed a boundary and an over over boundary each to help India score 188 for three in 20 overs.

Dhoni and Kohli added quick 13 runs partnership in the end.

Australia will need to score 189 runs in their 20 overs to win the match.

Earlier, Australia won the toss and elected to field first.

Watson took two while Faulkner picked up a wicket for Australia.
