Shubman Gill, Andre Russell power Kolkata Knight Riders to set 179 as target for Delhi Capitals
Kolkata, Apr 12 (IBNS): Shubman Gill and Andre Russell were the main architect of a challenging total of 178/7 in 20 overs against Delhi Capitals at the Eden Gardens here on Friday.
Gill, who opened the Kolkata innings, rescued his team initially after the Knights lost their first wicket in the form of Joe Denly right in the opening ball of the match. Of course, the young right-handed batsman, who scored 65 off just 39 balls, was supported by experienced Robin Uthappa to some extent.
Uthappa, who scored 28, failed to capitulate on his start but his mate Gill carried on with his attacking batting until he was dismissed by Keemo Paul, who picked two wickets this evening.
Windies all-rounder Andre Russell began his batting right from where he had left against Chennai Super Kings but fell short of five runs from yet another half century. He scored 45 off 21 balls.
Towards the end, Piyush Chawla scored some handy unbeaten 14 runs to push Kolkata's score close to 180.
Chris Morris and Kagiso Rabada picked two wickets each for Delhi.
