Shreyas Iyer leaves India A team and returns to Mumbai, Dhruv Jurel named captain against Australia A

Lucknow/IBNS: Indian cricketer Shreyas Iyer has abruptly left the India A squad and returned to Mumbai ahead of the second First-Class unofficial Test against Australia A in Lucknow, media reports said.

No one will be added to the squad as a replacement.

Wicketkeeper-batter Dhruv Jurel has been named as the captain in Iyer's absence.

"Yes, Shreyas is taking a break and has returned to Mumbai. He has informed the selectors that he won't be able to play in the second four-day match against Australia A.

"However, he remains in fray for a spot in the middle-order when the selectors meet to pick the squad for the West Indies series," The Times of India reported quoting a source.

In the first of the two Tests, Iyer scored 8 and 13 runs.

Iyer, who is working hard to make a spot in India's Test and T20 squad, is still up for selection in the upcoming two Tests against West Indies.

The Test series will begin at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on October 2.

Iyer was controversially not picked for India's recent Test series in England nor the ongoing Asia Cup which is being played in the T20 format.
