Miami, Apr 6 (IBNS): Indian Tennis icon Sania Mirza and her Swiss partner Martina Hingis defeated Ekaterina Makarova and Elena Vesnina to lift the Miami Open doubles title on Sunday.

The Indo-Swiss partners beat their opponents 7-5, 6-1.

Despite being 5-2 down, with Ekaterina Makarova and Elena Vesnina  making a strong start, it was the experienced Hingis and Mirza who bounced back into the game to clinch the match and the title.

"The most important thing is that we never stopped believing we're a great team," Hingis was quoted on saying by the wtatennis.com of the early deficit.

She said, "They played a great set to get us to that position, 5-2 down. Then we just tried to stay in there and get our chances. We just built on every point, which is what we did well last week too."

"We just tried to keep telling each other to enjoy the struggle," Mirza was quoted as saying by the website.

She also tweeted: "Champions in Miami title number 25 #thankful #2outof2 #2inarow #silverjubilee."

The pair had earlier lifted the Indian Wells title.
