Rohit Sharma, who did not feature in the fifth match of the Border-Gavaskar series amid his poor show with the bat against Australia, has expressed his desire to lead the Indian team for a short while and asked the Board of Control for Cricket in India to search for his replacement.

Rohit Sharma is under scanner following his poor run with the bat in the recently concluded Australia series which his squad lost 3-1.

Rohit Sharma's toughed a high point in his career last year when he led the team to T20 World Cup victory.

However, the year ended on a sour note for him after his team's dismal show against New Zealand and then in Australia.

Rohit met BCCI officials in Mumbai during a review meeting, discussing the recent India-Australian tour, last Saturday, reported Dainik Jagran.

According to the media report, coach Gautam Gambhir and  chief selector Ajit Agarkar also attended the meeting and assessed the team's performance in Australia.

According to the source, as quoted by Dainik Jagran, Rohit said, "I will remain the captain for the next few months, and till then the board can choose the future captain. Whoever you choose will have my full support."

Rohit will soon be seen captaining the Indian team in the upcoming Champions Trophy.
