PV Sindhu beats Carolina Marin, clinches Indian Open crown

New Delhi, Apr 2 (IBNS): Siri Fort Sports Complex here cheered aloud and the Indian flag flew high above as Olympic star PV Sindhu defeated Carolina Marin of Spain in straight games to win her maiden India Open Superseries badminton title.

Sindhu defeated the Spanish player 21-19, 21-16.

Sindhu was defeated in the Olympics final last year by Marin.

Saina Nehwal (women's singles) and Kidambi Srikanth (men's singles) had earlier won the  India Open Superseries badminton title.

They had won the title in 2015.

Sindhu had won the  Syed Modi International Grand Prix Gold earlier this year.

Indian cricket team coach Anil Kumble tweeted: "Congratulations @pvsindhu1 on the win! Great game! Wishing you more success! #SindhuvsMarin."

Former Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar said:"Champion moves & a warrior instinct! A true winner all the way. @Pvsindhu1, take a bow. #SindhuvsMarin."
