Pull out of IPL: Ravi Shastri's advice to struggling Virat Kohli

| @indiablooms | Apr 27, 2022, at 08:57 pm

Mumbai/IBNS: Former Indian head coach Ravi Shastri has left a piece of advice for cricket maestro Virat Kohli, whose off form seems to be far from over.

After two ducks in two consecutive matches, Kohli scored just nine against Rajasthan Royals last night.

As questions are raising on the star cricketer's future from certain corners, Shastri, a favourite of Kohli, has advised the former Indian skipper to pull out of the cash rich T20 tournament Indian Premier League (IPL), which is played in the summers.

Shastri said on Jatin Sapru's YouTube channel as quoted by NDTV, "I think a break is ideal for him because he has played non-stop cricket and he has captained the side across all formats. It will be wise of him to take a break. You know, sometimes you have to draw the balance.

"This year he is already into the tournament (IPL 2022), tomorrow if push comes to shove and you want to prolong your international career and make a mark there for 6-7 years, pull out of the IPL, for all you care."

Earlier, Shastri had suggested to Kohli a break from cricket after the former Bangalore captain went out for ducks in two back to back matches.

"He needs a break because he has got 6-7 years of cricket left in him and you don't want to lose that with a fried brain. He is not the only one. There might be 1 or 2 in world cricket going through the same.

"You need to address the problem upfront 'you have to show empathy to the guys'. If you're going to be forceful, there is a very thin line there, from a guy losing the plot as opposed to him hanging in there and giving his best. So you have to be extremely careful," Shastri, the cricket legend, had said.

Not just in the ongoing season of IPL, Kohli has been facing hurdles to score big in all forms of cricket as he is yet to score an international hundred since 2019.
