Pujara slams century, India still in fight with 303/4 at tea

Ranchi, Mar 18 (IBNS) : A brilliant unbeaten 109 by Cheteshwar Pujara took India to 303 for four wickets at tea on the third day of their third test match against Australia on Saturday as the home team were still in fight after suffering few quick blows that sent skipper Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane packed to the pavilion.

Chasing the visitor's first innings total of 451, the Indians, however, still trail by 148 runs.

This was Pujara's eleventh test hundred. 

Pujara, who stood tall to save the team from an early disaster, kept losing partners after lunch as Kohli  (6) and Rahane (14) went back, both falling to Pat Cummins.

Along with Pujara at stumps is Karun Nair with 13.

Earlier, opener Murali Vijay, who had played a sheet anchor role, gave away his wicket at the  stroke of lunch   to give Australia their first breakthrough in the morning session. .

At lunch, India put on 193 runs for the loss of two wickets, by virtue of a 102 runs partnership between Vijay and Cheteshwar Pujara.

Murali Vijay, scored 82 off 183 balls.
