Birmingham, June 26 (IBNS): New Zealand faced their first defeat in this edition of the Cricket World Cup at the hands of Pakistan here on Wednesday evening.

With this, while New Zealand has five wins in seven matches (the one with India could not be played), Pakistan has three wins in seven matches.

India are the only team yet to lose a match in the tournament.

Batting first in today's match, New Zealand scored a modest 237 losing six wickets. Neesham was the top scorer of the side with an unbeaten 97 off 112 balls.

Pakistani put on display a disciplined bowling attack with Afridi picking up three wickets for 28 runs.

After losing the early wicket of Zaman in the third over, Pakistan showed restraint and consolidated their innings without losing too many wickets. The next wicket fell in the 11th over and the third in the 25th.
