Rajkot, Nov 4 (IBNS): Boasting on the destructive batting by Colin Munro, New Zealand defeated India by 40 runs in the second T20I match on the ongoing series here on Saturday.

Winning the toss and coming out to bat, New Zealand scored a mammoth total of 196/2 in 20 overs.

Munro played an innings of unbeaten 109 runs from 58 balls. He has hit seven fours and seven sixes in different parts of the field.

Martin Guptill was dismissed at 45.

Munro and Guptill have put up an opening partnership of 105 runs.

Indian bowlers had to struggle to get the Kiwi wickets.

Yuzvendra Chahal had the best bowling figure for India with 1/36 in four overs. Mohammed Siraj picked up the wicket of New Zealand captain Kane Williamson.

Chasing the target of 197, despite skipper Virat Kohli's fighting 65, India could manage to score 156/9 in 20 overs.

After losing both openers, Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan, Kohli brought India back to the match but failed to register a win due to the lack any support from the other end.

Pressure mounted on India as they kept on losing their wickets and eventually Kohli was dismissed at a time the asking rate was going higher.

The Indian captain scored 65 in just 42 balls.

Shreyas Iyer scored 23 from 21 balls.

After a slow start, MS Dhoni fired towards the end of the match but it was all too late by then. He remained not out at 49 (37).

Trent Boult was on fire with the ball in Rajkot as he picked up four wickets conceding 34 runs in four overs.

Mitchell Santner, Ish Sodhi and Colin Munro shared one wicket each for New Zealand.

The three-match series is now leveled 1-1.
