Lodha Panel bars ministers from contesting BCCI elections
According to the new rules, no ministers will be allowed to contest BCCI elections. The panel have also laid down other rules for the same.
In the newly published report by the Supreme Court appointed committee, only an Indian can apply for any of the top BCCI post, albeit he cannot me more than 70 years old or be a government servant.
"As regards the office bearers of BCCI - president, VP, secretary, joint secretary and treasurer - certain eligibility criteria has been fixed. He must be an Indian, he must not be above age of 70, he must not be insolvent, he must not be a minister or government servant, and who has not held office in the BCCI for a cumulative period for nine years," the panel report said.
The new law means that an office bearer can hold office for a maximum period of 3 years in one term and can contest in maximum 3 terms.
The committee also said that the IPL and BCCI should have different sets of governing bodies.
The other big development for an office bearer is that the same person cannot hold positions in both the state and the national body.
The committee also recommended that each state will have one member who will be eligible to vote.
The BCCI is likely to adopt RTI under the new recommendations, something they have opposed throughout the years.
