Kolkata's karate girl eager to meet Guv, CM; share gritty story
Kolkata, Jun 20 (UNI) Ayesha Noor, who represented India thrice in karate winning the gold, wishes to meet the governor and the chief minister of West Bengal.
'The Golden girl' as she is popularly known, has written letters to Governor KN Tripathi and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee requesting to meet them and share the story of her gritty journey.
The 22-year-old, who suffers from epileptic seizures, lives in a Kolkata slum. She lost her father nine years ago.
Also known as the karate girl, Ayesha won the gold in Mumbai in 2010 and in Bangkok in 2013 and 2015.
The United States honoured her with "The Hero of Gender Equality" award at the American Center in New Delhi in 2017.
A documentary film on her struggles and women empowerment--"Girl Connected" --was made by the International Television Services (USA) and screened globally. Doordarshsan (Delhi) also telecast it.
Recently Noor was honoured with the "Times Women Heroes Award" by The Times of India.
Ayesha is scheduled to get International Sports Award on September 28 in Bangkok.
Four girl students from her camp, belonging to slums, will take part at the World Meet 2019 in Bangkok.
Ayesha teaches martial arts to girls free of charge and recently coached girls at 'Rukhey Daran' (fight back) event which was orgainised by the Press Club Kolkata.
