Wellington, New Zealand, Mar 21(IBNS) A blazing double century by opener Martin Guptill helped New Zealand storm into the semi-final of the ICC World Cup crushing West Indies by 143 runs in the last quarter final match on Saturday..

The Kiwis scored an insurmountable 393 for six in the stipulated 50 overs while the Caribbean batsmen were all out for 250 in 30.3 overs despite a lone fightback by their opener Chris Gayle, who scored a hurricane 61 off 33 balls.

Guptill, who became the only New Zealander to score a double century in ODI, was declared man of the match.

He remained not out scoring a  tornado 237off 163 balls and built up a 243-run partnership with a supportive Ross Taylor even after skipper-opener Brendon Mccullum and Kane Williamson returned early to the pavilion scoring respectively 12 and 28.
