Kaohsiung Challenger: Gunneswaran, Balaji-Vardhan crash out

Chandigarh, Sept 20 (UNI): Indians had a disappointing day in the $ 162,480 ATP Challenger in Kaohsiung Open (Taiwan) on Thursday. Second-seeded Prajnesh Gunneswaran lost a close third round singles match to Enrique Lopez Perez, seeded 14th, of Spain 7-5, 5-7, 4-6 in one hour and 55 minutes in the third round match.

In a neck-to-neck fight 27 aces, including 13 by Gunneswaran were fired. Perez committed four double faults in one comparision to one by his opponent.

Perez saved four break points and won four break points while Gunneswaran saved three break points and won three break points. Gunneswaran won 93 points and Perez won 104.

In doubles first round encounter, Indian pair of N Sriram Balaji and Vishnu Vardhan lost to wild card entrans Chun-hsin Tseng and Tung-Lin Wu of Taipei in one hour and 18 minutes.
