The Indian selectors on Saturday named Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami were named in the Indian squad for the Champions Trophy which will be played in Dubai and Pakistan next month.

Hardik Pandya, who was part of the T20 World Cup winning team, also returned to the 50-over squad that will represent India in the ICC event.

Rohit Sharma, who was under scanner following his poor show with the bat in the recently concluded Australian tour, will lead the Indian team in Dubai.

This is the first time he will be captaining India in the Champions Trophy, an event being hosted after eight years gap.

India received a major boost after Bumran was named in the team.

There were doubts over his inclusion after he suffered a back spasm during the Sydney Test in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia.

Shubman Gill has been named the Indian team's vice-captain for the event.

Shami returned to the squad after a long gap since he underwent a surgery to solver foot injury.

He last played a ODI match during India's World Cup final against Australia in Ahmedabad in 2023.

Yashasvi Jaiswal's inclusion in the team was a positive result for the opener who shinned in T20 and Test formats.
