Ireland shock Bangladesh, WI survive Scot challenge

Sydney, Feb 12 (IBNS): Ahead of the World Cup, Ireland once again showed their brilliance as they defeated Bangladesh by four wickets in a warm-match game here on Thursday.

Bowling out Bangladesh for 189 runs in 48.2 overs, the Ireland batsmen  reached 190 by losing six wickets with 19 balls to spare.

John Mooney and Max Sorensen took three wickets each as they destroyed the Asian side who lost their second warm-up match.

Soumya Sarkar was the top scorer for Bangladesh with his 45.

Anamul Haque( 25), Mushfiqur Rahim (26) and Sabbir Rahman (20) failed to convert the start they got as Bangladesh batsmen struggled in the match.

Skipper Mashrafe Mortaza contributed 22 runs with his willow.

Riding on Ireland's Andy Balbirnie's unbeaten 63 and Ed Joyce's 47 runs, the side reached 190 runs target in 46.5 overs, giving Bangladesh supporters another shock ahead of the mega event.

Balbirnie smashed six boundaries in his knock.

Taijul Islam picked up two wickets for Bangladesh.

In the other warm-up game, West Indies survived a scare as they defeated Scotland by only three runs at Sydney Cricket Ground.

After posting 313 runs for nine on the scoreboard, West Indies bowlers restricted their opponent at 310 runs for the loss of nine wickets.

Kyle Coetzer  (96) and RD Berrington (66) scared West Indies bowlers and challenged the former World Cup champions as they nearly reached target set by them.
