Ireland pulled off a surprise victory over England by five runs through Duckworth-Lewis-Stern or DLS method in the T20 World Cup at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCC) in Melbourne Wednesday.

Chasing a target of 158, England scored 105/5 in 14.3 overs when rain stopped play at the MCC.

In the DLS method, Ireland were declared the winner by five runs in an almost repeat of the result that came out from a match between the two sides in the 2011 50-over World Cup.

English all-rounder Moeen Ali (24 off 12 balls) and Liam Livingstone (one off two balls) were batting when the rain stopped the play.

Batting first, Ireland were bowled out for 157 in 19.2 overs.

Livingstone (3/17) and Mark Wood (3/34) were the most successful English bowlers, who helped in wrapping up the Irish batting line up.

Ireland skipper Andrew Balbirnie was the top scorer for the team with his 47-ball 62, courtesy five fours and two sixes.
