IPL Playoffs: Kolkata Knight Riders knock Sunrisers Hyderabad out of IPL by 7 wickets

Bangalore, May 18 (IBNS): Kolkata Knight Riders defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad by seven wickets in D/L method in the eliminator match of the playoffs and knocked the defending champion out of the tenth edition of Indian Premier League, on Thursday.

Due to rain, the match was delayed and later KKR received a target of 48 runs in six overs as per D/L method.

Coming out to chase a low total, KKR lost early wickets of Chris Lynn, Yusuf Pathan and Robin Uthappa but it was the skipper Gautam Gambhir who played an anchor role to ensure the victory for his team.

Gambhir scored 32 runs in just 19 balls with two fours and two sixes and partnered Ishank Jaggi to score the necessary runs.

Bhuvaneshwar Kumar and Chris Jordan shared one wicket each for SRH.

Earlier with a tight bowling performance, Kolkata Knight Riders restricted Sunrisers Hyderabad to only 128/7 in 20 overs.

Losing the toss, SRH came out to bat but hardly could dominate the KKR bowling and finished the innings with slightly higher than six runs per over.

The skipper David Warner and Kane Williamson were the top scorers for the Sunrisers with 37 and 24 respectively.

Vijay Shankar played some explosive shots to score 22 from 17 balls but was a victim to KKR fast bowler Coulter-Nile.

Nathan Coulter-Nile had the best bowling figure for KKR with 3/20 in four overs while Umesh Yadav picked up couple of wickets.

KKR will face Mumbai Indians in the second qualifier of the playoff on Thursday.
