IPL: KKR start on a winning note, beat Delhi by 9 wickets
The home crowd cheered in joy as Kolkata skipper Gautam Gambhir won the toss and decided to field first.
The DD's, who have had a torrid season in the last edition, picked up from where it all ended.
They had a modest opening stand of 24 runs, the highest of their innings, as things went downhill from there on.
The Kolkata bowlers tightened their grip as Andre Russel, John Hastings, Brad Hogg and Piyush Chawla was successful in deflating the Delhi batting line up.
Both Russell and Hogg picked up 3 wickets while Chawla and Hastings chipped in with a brace.
Hastings, the burly Aussie was the most economical, sparing just 6 runs for his couple of wickets.
For the DD's, only four batsmen reached the double figure mark, with Quinton de Kock (17) leading the board, followed by Sanju Samson (15), Pawan Negi and Chris Morris (11 each).
Starting the chase, Robin Uthappa and Gautam Gambhir carted the DD bowlers across the park as the duo forged a 69-run partnership for the opening stand.
Uthappa was however sent back to the pavilion by Amit Mishra for 35 runs.
The remaining of the runs were scored by Manish Pandey and Gambhir, who added an unbeaten partnership of 30 runs for the ensuing wicket.
While Gambhir remained unbeaten at 38, his partner too stayed unbeaten at 15.
Russell was adjudged the Man of the match
