IPL: CSK beat MI to reach qualifier

Mumbai, May 28 (IBNS): MS Dhoni and his consistency in every edition of Indina Premier League (IPL) continues as his Chennai Super Kings (CSK) qualified for the second Qualifier of the tournament by bating current champions Mumbai Indians by seven wickets in the Eliminator here on Wednesday.

Cashing Mumbai's 173 for eight,CSK reached 176 for three in 18.4 overs.

Getting a good start from the openers-Dwayne Smith (24) and Faf du Plessis (35)- CSK got the exact momentum for the run chase.

After Smith departed  in the seventh over, CSK had already raced to 60 by then.

Suresh Raina, who will lead Indian team to the Bangladesh tour, shined with his willow as he contributed unbeaten 54 and along with

David Hussey (40), he reached the target at the end.

Raina smashed four boundaries and two sixes in his knock.

Hussey, who joined the team late in the tournament, is proving to be quite useful as his 29-ball  unbeaten 40 was quite useful at the end for the visitors. He smashed two boundaries and three sixes in his knock.

Harbhajan Singh picked up two wickets for Mumbai.

Earlier, Mumbai Indians posted 173 for eight on the scorecard.

Lendl Simmons top scored for the side with his 44-ball 67.

Michael Hussey  contributed 39 runs with his willow as both added 76 runs in the first wicket partnership.

Mohit Sharma picked up three wickets for CSK while Ashish Nehra and Ravindra Jadeja took two each.

CSK will meet Kings XI Punjab in the second qualifier.

MI 173 for 8 in 20 overs (L Simmons 67; M Sharma 3-42)

CSK 176 for 3 in 18.4 overs (S Raina 54 no;  H Singh 2-27)
