India U-19 team win Asia Cup, defend title successfully

Colombo/Mumbai, Dec 24 (IBNS): India's cricketing dominance in the U-19 level continued as they won and defended the Asia Cup successfully, defeating hosts Sri Lanka by 34 runs.

Rahul Dravid's boys, buoyed by the performance of Himanshu Rana (71) and Shubman Gill (70), set the home side a competitive total of 274 runs in the allotted 50 overs.

Sri Lanks started off strongly, plundering the Indian bowlers for runs in the first three overs.

Place comfortably at 196 runs for the loss of three wickets in the 38th over, the home side lost wickets at regular pace, which prevented their momentum.

By virtue of this win, India also registered a hat-trick of wins in the U-19 Asia Cup.
