India-Afghanistan test match: Rain halts the game

| @indiablooms | Jun 14, 2018, at 03:52 pm

Bengaluru, Jun 14 (IBNS) : Recurrent showers halted the one-off test match between India and Afghanistan at Bengaluru's Chinnaswamy Stadium on Thursday.

India was 264 for the loss of one wicket when the play was held up with Murli Vijay (99) and Lokesh Rahul (44) being at stumps.

As a downpour arrived and players ran towards the pavilion, groundsmen scurried onto the field to cover it.

Earlier, after  India won the toss and elected to bat, Shikhar Dhawan slammed a blitzkrieg century-107 off 96 balls to become the first Indian to score a century before lunch in a test match.

The one-off Test match marked the beginning of Afghanistan's journey in the longest format of the sport.

This is the first time Afghanistan players are wearing their official white jerseys on the field.

India are having right-handed batsman Ajinkya Rahane as the skipper for the Test match in absence of Virat Kohli.

Kohli had pulled himself out of the Test match to play county cricket, as a preparation for the upcoming England series.

However, Kohli later suffered an injury to miss his county stint.
