Google celebrates Australian cricket legend Don Bradman's birth anniversary with a colourful doodle

New York, Aug 27 (IBNS): Popular internet search engine Google on Monday decorated its homepage with a doodle to mark the 110th birth anniversary of legendary Australian cricketer Don Bradman.

In the doodle, one could see the batsman playing one of his masterclass shots.

Born on this day in 1908 in Cootamundra, New South Wales, Don is considered as one of the greatest batsmen to play the game in the history of cricket.

Bradman's career Test batting average of 99.94 has been cited as the greatest achievement by any sportsman in any major sport.

Ex-Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar posted a nostalgic message on his Twitter handle where he remembered the moment of meeting the cricketer 20 years ago.

"It’s been 20 years since I met the inspirational Sir #DonBradman but that special memory is so vivid. I still recall his amazing wit, warmth, and wisdom. Remembering him fondly today, on what would have been his 110th birthday," Sachin tweeted.

In his playing career, Don Bradman made his debut in 1927 at 19 years old, in a first-class match between his New South Wales team and Adelaide, scoring a “century”—118 runs, to be exact—in his very first match.

He was so talented and so consistent, he averaged at least one century every three innings over the course of his 21-year test match career.

He amassed a total of 6,996 runs in 52 Test matches—making him a top contender for the title of best cricketer to ever step on a pitch.

When Wisden Cricketers’ Almanack polled 100 former cricketers and journalists to determine the top cricketers of the 20th century, “The Don” was nominated by all 100.
