Jamshedpur, Aug 6 (IBNS): Kolkata lads Bibek Sardar and Kunal Naidu shot identical four-over par 75s to share the top place on the leaderboard at the Tata Steel Jharkhand Juniors Challenge 2014 being played here at the Par – 71 Golmuri Club Golf Course.

The leaders take a lead of two strokes at the end of round 1 of the seventh leg of Tata Steel East Zone Feeder & Sub Junior Tour.

Last week’s Tata Steel Tolly Juniors Challenge winner Udayjit Bhalotia occupies the third place after he submitted a card of six-over par 77 followed by the trio of Hassan Rahman Khandokar, Rajvir Randhawa and local lad Sharif Khan who shot an eight-over 79.

In tied seventh place is another local lad Shamim Edu along with Karan Verma of Kolkata who finished the day at ten-over 81.

It was Kunal who took the early lead on Bibek as he pinned a birdie on the Par 4 3rd hole after both players had made a bogey 5 on the 1st hole. Bibek rolled in a birdie of his own on the very next hole to go level but dropped two strokes on the Par 3 5th to trail Kunal by two.

They matched each other for the next three holes before a second birdie for Bibek cut the lead to half going out. It was even stevens after 10 when Kunal made a bogey on the Par 3 10th hole before another double bogey on the Par 4 15th hole by Bibek made him lose ground and trail by two strokes again. However, Bibek was not in the mood to give up on the fight and had a par-birdie-par finish to Kunal’s par-bogey-par which made sure that both of them will begin the final round tomorrow on an even keel.

Category C was again dominated by Sandeep Kumar Yadav who led familiar foes Rajib Ali and Abhikanks Basu by four strokes by carding a seven-over par 78 with six bogeys and one birdie on the Par 5 9th hole. Rajib and Abhikanks shot eleven-over par 82 to live to fight another day and between them could not make a single birdie. Golmuri’s very own Irhaam Zuhayr is in fourth place with a score of twenty nine-over par 100 followed by another local lad Rayyan Habib a further four strokes behind.

Kaushal Bagrodia leads the Category D with a score of seventeen over-par 88 having shot identical front nine and back nine of 44 gross. The Kolkata lad is chased by city mates Joysurjo Dey who is two strokes behind at 90 and Subham Adak a further two strokes behind at 92. Local lads Biren Kumar and Aryan Gautam are tied in sixth place twenty five strokes behind the leader at 113.
