Former Real Madrid president Lorenzo Sanz dies after COVID 19 infection

Madrid/IBNS:  Former Real Madrid president Lorenzo Sanz passed away after being infected by COVID 19, officials said on Sunday.

He was taken to the hospital with the virus infection.

Sanz,76, had served as the president of the club from 1995-2000.

During that period the club had won the Champions League twice.

Sanz's son Lorenzo Sanz Duran posted on Twitter: "My father's passion for Real Madrid was extraordinary."

Sanz was defeated in the 2000 presidential election to Florentino Perez.
