Former Indian hockey player Michael Kindo dies at 74
Rourkela/UNI/IBNS: Former Indian hockey player and Arjuna awardee Michael Kindo passed away at Odisha's Rourkela city on Thursday. He was 74.
His demise has sent shockwaves in the hockey fraternity.
Kindo was part of the Men's Hockey Team which won the gold medal in the 1975 World Cup and also won the Olympic Bronze Medal in the year 1972.
Besides, he was part of the hockey team which participated in the Asian Games, Asia Games, Commonwealth Games and made a name for himself at
the international level.
Kindo had served in the army from where he went on to play hockey.
After retiring from the army he was providing training in SAIL Rourkela and had
settled there itself.
He breathed his last at IGH Rourkela.
Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik condoled the ace hockey player's demise.
"Deeply saddened to know the passing away of hockey legend and Arjuna Awardee #MichaelKindo, a tribal icon and part of India's World Cup winning team of 1975. My thoughts are with his family and fans," he tweeted.
