FC Barcelona beat Valencia to extend lead at top of La Liga table

| | Apr 19, 2015, at 06:08 am
Barcelona, Apr 18 (IBNS) Lionel Messi scored his 400th La Liga goal and set up Luis Suarez for another to help his team win 2-0 against Valencia here at the Camp Nou on Saturday.

The win was hard fought as Valencia made life difficult for the Barcelona defense in the first half but spoiled a host of good goal-scoring opportunities.

Suarez netted his 12th goal in his last 12 appearances to give Barcelona the lead 55 seconds into the match at Camp Nou.

Valencia striker Paco Alcacer went close several times before Barcelona settled down after half-time, and Messi netted his 35th league goal of the season right before the final whistle.

The victory lifted Barcelona a provisional five points clear before second-place Real Madrid, who host Malaga later.
