Australia left the field on a safer note as batsman Shaun Marsh struck a key half-century to help the hosts take 326 runs lead against India at the end of the fourth day of the third Test here on Monday.
Riding on Marsh's unbeaten 62, Australia posted 261 for seven at the end of the day's play.
It was Marsh who guided the side to safety with his matured knock that had eight boundaries and a six.
David Warner (40) and Chris Rogers (69) gave Australia a good start at the top of the innings by posting 57 runs.
After Warner departed, Shane Watson (17) and Steve Smith (14) joined Rogers for small partnerships.
Marsh later played the key role of taking Australia to a safer position with his fifty.
He will resume the proceedings on Tuesday morning with Ryan Harris (8).
India earlier in the day were bowled out for 465 runs in their first innings.
The visitors added just three runs to their overnight score of on 462-8.
Australia had posted a mammoth 530 on the scorecard in their first inning. The hosts are currently 2-0 up in the series.
