England beat India to win T20 thriller

Birmingham, Sept 7 (IBNS) In a sensational match that went down to the wire, England defeated India by three runs in the only T20 match here on Sunday.

Chasing England's 180 for seven, India managed to score 177 for five in their 20 overs.

Needing to score 17 in the last over and then five int he last ball, the onus was on skipper MS Dhoni (27*) to guide the side to another sensational victory in the last match of the tour.

Dhoni managed to score a single run off Chris Woakes, ending all chances of winning the match.

Virat Kohli earlier played a heroic knock of 66 runs off 41 bals, hitting nine boundaries and a six.

Along with Shikhar Dhawan (33), Kohli scored 79 runs off the last wicket partnership after India lost the wicket of Ajinkya Rahane (8) fast.

It was some  fine display of death bowling by Harry Gurney and Chris Woakes which sealed England's win.

Gurney, Woakes, Steve Finn and Moeen Ali picked a wicket each for England.

A heroic 71-run knock by Eoin Morgan earlier helped  England post 180 for seven wickets in 20 overs.

Morgan hammered three boundaries and seven sixes in his 36-ball knock which made all the differences in the match.

Alex Hales contributed 40 runs with his willow.

English opener Jason Roy, who scored 8 runs in match, made his T20 debut in the match.

Mohammed Shami was the pick of the Indian bowlers as he picked up three wickets by giving away 38 runs in his four overs.

Spinner Karn Sharma, who made his debut for India, picked up the wicket of Moeen Ali (0).
