DKS to host 25th ITF Junior Tennis Championship from Jan 16
Addressing media persons here, Chatterjee , who is also the secretary of Dakahin Kolikata Sangsad, said that apart from India, the tournament has attracted entiries from thirteen countries , including the United States, Chinese Taipeh, Croatia, Kazakhstan, Philippines,Thailand,Indonesia,Korea, Belgium, Russia,Uzbekistan, Pakistan and Syria .
Chatterjee intimated that it is indeed a unique thing that this would be silver jubilee year of hosting of ITF Junior meet by DKS.
Since the first ITF in 1993, DKS is regularly hosting this meet which served as the nursery for Indian tennis greats like Leander Paes and Sania Mirza .
While Hua Chen Yu from Chinese Taipei and Hazem Now from Syria would be the two topmost players here with ITF Ranking of 201 and 251, Parikshit Sahani and two time junior national champion Nitin Kumar Sinha would be the best among the Indian challengers with ITF ranking of 271 and 297 respectively.
In the girls category Axana Mareen of Belgium and Kuan Yi lee of ChineseTaipei are having the best ITF ranking of 210 and 244 respectively. Akansha Bhan is having the best ITF ranking among the Indian girls here with 247.
Other Indian players in the main draw of this meet are (boys) Dhrub Sunish, Rishah Sarda, Vashisht Cheruku, Abhimanyu Vannereddy,M B Patel,Srivatsa Ratakonda,Siddhart Thakran,Karan Srivastva, Sacchitt Sharma, Ritvik Choudhary ,M TTheeratha Shasank and Sumit PalSingh , (girls ) Ria Verma, Baidehi Choudhari,Shivani Amineni, Sabhyata Nihalani,Shivani Ingle, S R Bhamidipaty, Tanisha Kashyap,Aaliya Ebrahim, S H Chilakalapudi, Trisha Vinod and Muskan Gupta.
Indian entries in the main draw who came through wild cards are (boys) Siddhant Mahala, Arghya Das,N C Golmei and Ashutosh Tiwari, (girls ) Y S Dedeepya, , Rashmika Rajan, Yubarani Banerjee and Adrija Biswas.
Aman Atiqur Khan from Pakistan is also taking part in the qualifying round of this meet.
Former India Captain and Davis cupper Naresh Kumar inaugurate the meet in presence of other tennis lumineries of the city at 3 p.m on Sunday next.
