Cristiano Ronaldo's wedding rumours cause chaos as fans storm wrong wedding in Madeira

Thousands of fans of Portuguese football legend Cristiano Ronaldo gathered outside a cathedral in Madeira after mistakenly believing that the football star was getting married, turning an unsuspecting couple’s wedding into a bizarre scene of chaos.

Hundreds of fans reportedly gathered outside Funchal Cathedral amid rumours that Ronaldo was set to marry his longtime partner, Georgina Rodriguez.

However, the wedding taking place at the cathedral had nothing to do with the football superstar. The unexpected crowd reportedly left the bride, groom and their wedding party stunned.

The wedding date had been booked by Fabio Ramos and Fatima Nicole Cunha Teixeira, a couple living in France who had returned to their homeland to get married.

The couple has no known connection to Ronaldo.

Father Marcos Goncalves, the parish priest who officiated at the ceremony, confirmed the mix-up.

“I can tell you that they are nothing to do with Cristiano Ronaldo. This is the only wedding taking place here today,” he told Metro.

Ronaldo’s sister reacts to wedding rumours

Ronaldo’s older sister, Elma Aveiro, also reacted to footage showing a huge crowd outside the cathedral.

Questioning why fans believed Ronaldo was getting married, she wrote on social media, as quoted by the newspaper: “But why do these people think Ronaldo would get married, when he himself never announced it, anyway? Don’t they realise that the media doesn’t know anything, they just want to know?! And then they invent things. Surreal.”

Fans also gather outside luxury hotel

According to the report, large numbers of fans also gathered outside the Savoy Palace, a luxury five-star hotel in Funchal, after rumours circulated that it could host Ronaldo’s wedding celebrations.

The confusion reportedly caused significant disruption around the cathedral.

After the ceremony, the official Facebook page of the cathedral said: “We never saw anything like this here in Sé. It was very complicated for the bride to enter the Sé church to get married.”

Is Cristiano Ronaldo getting married?

Ronaldo and Georgina Rodriguez have been the subject of marriage speculation for some time. However, the couple has not officially announced a wedding date or confirmed that they are planning a ceremony at Funchal Cathedral.

As of now, there has been no official confirmation from Cristiano Ronaldo or Georgina Rodriguez regarding their wedding plans.
