Cricketer Yuvraj Singh celebrates his 34th birthday

Mumbai, Dec 12 (IBNS) Cricketer Yuvraj Singh, the chief-architect of India's World Cup triumph at home-soil in 2011 and a survivor of cancer, turned a year older as he celebrated his 34th birthday on Saturday.

Born in 1981, the south paw started off as a junior cricketer, amassing runs at the junior and domestic level and slowly making his senior debut in 2000 on the back of some strong performances at the domestic circuit.

Though a prolific fielder in the beginning of his international career, plucking out the ball mid air on several occasion to raise the fielding standard of the team along with Mohammad Kaif, a popular story about Yuvraj suggests that he was once dropped from his domestic side because of the lack of his fielding ability.

Towards the later half of his career, Yuvi turned a middle order specialist, as played some crucial innings to save his team the blushes.

He also came in handy with the ball, dismissing batsmen with his slow turners.

The low point came right after India's World Cup win in 2011, where he was adjudged the Man of the Tournament. The very year Yuvraj was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer. Though he recovered and took the field again,  he failed to emulate his form in the highest level of cricket, and with the current Indian team filled with promising talent, Yuvraj remained an elusive name.

With his bath mates calling the shots, it is a matter of time before Yuvi too decides to hang the boots.
