Cricketer Shehan Madushanka suspended by SLC over drug arrest

Colombo/UNI: Sri Lanka Cricket on Tuesday suspended Shehan Madushanka from all forms of cricket for alleged possession of heroin.

"Sri Lanka Cricket decided to suspend Shehan Madushanka from all forms of cricket, with immediate effect," SLC release said.

"The decision was taken following the player was arrested on Saturday by the Police and later sent on remand custody for alleged possession of illegal drugs. The decision to suspend will remain intact until a full inquiry is conducted by the SLC into the matter."

The pacer was carrying just over two grams of heroin when arrested on Saturday.

The right-arm pace bowler took a hat-trick against Bangladesh on his ODI debut in January 2018. He also played two T20 matches against Bangladesh in 2018, but has not played an international since due to injuries and has not been in the frame for selection recently.

However, he is an active cricketer and was playing in Sri Lanka's domestic competitions before the Covid-19 curfews came into effect.
