Bibek Sardar takes narrow lead at Golmuri Juniors

Jamshedpur, Apr 18 (IBNS): Kolkata lad Bibek Sardar took a slender one-shot lead at the end of the first round of the Golmuri Juniors, the second event on the Tata Steel IGU East Zone Junior / Sub-Junior Tour being played at the Golmuri Golf Club here on Friday.

Bibek carded a 5-over 76 to nose ahead of local lad Shamim Edu in the top category (A&B).

Manish Rajak was placed third at 7-over 79 while Sharif Khan was fourth at 9-over 80. Rohit Kumar Bouri was tied for the fifth place along with Hassan Rahman Khandokar at 81.

Bibek also led in Category B with Manish following him three strokes behind. Rajib Ali led in Category C with a total of 7-over 79 while Sandeep Kumar Yadav was second at 80. Abhikanks Basu was third at 83 while Aroush Tagore was fourth at 91. Pranshu Poddar emerged as the leader in Category D with a card of 85 while Arav Sanghavi was trailing the leader by two storkes. Joysurjo Dey was a far third at 93.

Meanwhile, in the Girls Category B, Vanika Badshah was leading with a total of 94 while Marshneil Prasad was second at 96. Chitragandha Singh was the leader in the Girls Category C with a total of 80 while Garv Lakhmani was leading in Category E which was played over nine holes.

Bibek had a brilliant start and played some awesome golf in the first eight holes where he even made three birdies on the third, sixth and seventh holes while incurring a bogey on the ninth hole to take the turn at 2-under. On the back nine, Bibek faltered time and again where he made three bogeys and two double bogeys to lose seven shots on his back nine and at 5-over for the day.

“It was a pleasant morning and the fairway and greens were playing very well. I am happy with my score today but I am looking to play even better and improve my score tomorrow,” said the leader.
