Bristol, Aug 14 (IBNS): England cricketer Ben Stokes on Tuesday was cleared of an affray after a fight outside a Bristol nightclub, media reports said.

A jury at Bristol crown court acquitted Stokes after he provided evidence saying that he had acted in self defence.

Ryan Ali, the other accused, has also been acquitted.

Ryan Hale, one of the three accused, was earlier acquitted at Bristol Crown Court.

Stokes told the court that he acted to defend two gay men when they were allegedly attacked by Ali and Hale with "homophobic comments".

The cricketer was quoted by BBC as saying, "I stepped in and said 'you shouldn't be saying these things to these two men'."

The incident occurred in September last year.

Stokes, the English all-rounder, went to Bristol nightclub to celebrate victory over West Indies.
