Mumbai, July 18 (IBNS): Taking another twist in the ongoing drama of Indian cricket, the BCCI on Tuesday announced Bharat Arun and R Sridhar as the bowling and fielding coaches respectively.

The BCCI had earlier announced the name of Zaheer Khan as the bowling coach apart from naming former Indian captain Ravi Shastri as the head coach.

Former Indian batsman, Sanjay Bangar, has been named as the assistant coach of the Indian cricket team.

Arun, Sridhar, Bangar and other support staffs had been appointed till the closure of 2019 World Cup.

Acting Secretary of BCCI, Amitabh Chaudhary, made the announcement in presence of head coach Ravi Shastri and CEO Rahul Johri.

Shastri made it very clear in the press conference on Tuesday that it was his recommendations to include Arun and Sridhar into the team.

He said: "I was in England watching tennis and I was very clear in my mind what the core team would be. And this is the core team."

However, Zaheer and Dravid would be working for the team as consultants, the BCCI said. The number of days per year they would spending with the Indian team is not yet decided.

Shastri, the former team director, said he personally talked to both Zaheer and Dravid about the new appointments. "I have spoken to both the individuals and as good as three or four days ago. They are two fantastic cricketers of India and their inputs will be invaluable. They will be on board once they had spoken to the authorities concerned. So there are no issues on that."

BCCI's acting secretary said that Shastri's opinion has been given 'regard' since he is the head coach of the team.

The former team director thanked the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) members for appointing him as the head coach.

The CAC, comprising of former cricketers like Sachin Tendulkar , Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman, recommended the name of Ravi Shastri to BCCI for the post of head coach.
