Melbourne, Oct 17 (IBNS) With few months left for the world to witness the next edition of the cricket World Cup,Cricket Australia on Friday announced a new deal with head coach Darren Lehmann to stay in the role until June 2017.

Cricket Australia and Darren Lehmann have agreed to terms on a 12-month contract extension that will see the 44-year-old's stay head coach until at least June 2017," the Cricket Australia website said.

"Obviously I have huge gratitude to the board and the people who make those decisions," Lehmann told cricket.com.au.

"And obviously the players have a bit of a say in that, I'd imagine, as well," he said.

"It means we're going down the right path, which is pleasing," the former Australian cricketer said.

"So now the challenge is to raise the bar, as we always talk about," he said.

Lehmann and his Australian team are currently preparing for a Test series against Asian cricket giant Pakistan as part of the VB Tour of the UAE.

Cricket Australia's Executive General Manager of Team Performance, Pat Howard, said the contract extension would give Lehmann the ability to focus on the task at hand.

"We have been extremely pleased with the results Darren has achieved with the team since he came on board," Howard was quoted as saying by the Cricket Australia website.
