Atletico de Kolkata reiterates its commitment for sustainable grassroot development of Football

Kolkata, Mar 29 (IBNS) Reiterating their commitment and dedication towards a sustainable growth of football in India from the very grassroots, Atletico de Kolkata announced the conclusion of the two months long grassroot programme for development of young footballers and selection of footballers for the proposed academy, here on Tuesday.

The team management also announced that the final selection is being carried out at Bidhannagar Municipality ground.

Utsav Parekh, Co-owner, Atlético de Kolkata, Chairman, SMIFS Capital Markets Ltd, said, “Our aim is to promote football and develop state-of-the-art infrastructure for the beautiful game in Bengal. The grassroot development is aligned to our commitment made to uplift and scout for the best of the football talent for the future. There is indeed no dearth of talent and potential but channelizing them towards their respective goals is our priority as well as our responsibility.”

This year the team management conducted 16 grassroot camps where they received a phenomenal response with 2862 young budding footballers participating in the camps. 

About 131 footballers in the age group of 13 and 202 footballers in the age group of 12 and below have been called for final selection.

In phase 1, Atlético de Kolkata is planning to take around 30-40 kids for their academy and will be provide all round development of the young footballers. A team of four Spanish coaches from Atletico de Madrid Academy are in Kolkata to help the Atlético de Kolkata coaches in the selection process. 

The programme will also include ‘Coach the Coaches’ where about 60 coaches from different coaching camps of West Bengal will also participate.
