| @indiablooms | Oct 04, 2023, at 03:22 pm

The India contingent set new Asian Games records after the country won 71 medals surpassing the previous best figure of clinching 70 medals in the showpiece event.

India achieved the feat after the archery pair of Ojas Pravin and Jyothi Surekha clinched the gold medal in the mixed-team compound final.

India had won 16 gold, 23 silver, and 31 bronze medals in the 2018 edition of the Asian Games.

In the current Games, the country has so far clinched 16 golds, 26 silver and 29 bronze medals.

SAI Media wrote on X: " With this gold in archery, 's medal tally at #AsianGames2022 now stands tall at an incredible 71 medals!"

"Our athletes' dedication and hard work have made this moment possible," the post said.

India is expected to add more medals to the tally with four more days of competition still being left.

India sent its largest-ever contingent to the Asian Games this year.
